Billy

July 4, 2020 by Thea Finney

Hello Everybody!

My name is Billy (or you can call me Billy Boy!) and I’m a darling, gentle and calm bichon mix of about one and a half (years that is) who is brimming with fun, full of love, friendly and as happy as can be. My foster Mom says I’m a “bona fide people pup” who loves everyone I meet instantly. You might also call me a meeter-and-greeter kind of pup or a ‘Take me to Starbucks’ kind of guy.

When I came into rescue I had a lot of hair that was tangled and twisted. The groomer said the kindest thing to do was to shave it off and let my new hair grow in nice and soft and white. And that’s what it’s doing, other than my ears which are tipped with grey and tan. When my hair grows all the way in Mom says I’ll be one handsome dude. (Aw, thanks Mom.)

Did I mention that I’m a pup who entertains himself — and does that very well. Toys are simply the best things in the world and I truly enjoy them (as you can tell from my photos.) And if my human wants to play a game like keep away, that’s really fun for me too. Otherwise I’m happy to have my toys all to myself.

Dad says there are a lot of cute things about me. For example, I like to watch TV. And if there are dogs on the TV why that is even better! I watch them carefully making sure that I understand what they are doing. Dad says that shows how I well- mannered I am! Another example of that is when I sit patiently and wait for my treats. My doggy foster brother and sister get theirs first but I know I will get my turn so I wait quietly and show my best manners.

Now I do have this one “trick” that surprised Mom and Dad. It’s actually what my Aunties call       ‘an ability’ or maybe they mean ‘an agility’.  You see when I know Mom or Dad is thinking of sitting down on the couch, I manage to launch myself so that I “arrive” in their laps by the time they “land” on the couch. (They laugh and think that’s pretty amazing!) I’m not a big guy by any means but I’m certainly very agile!

I’m also a good listener and not a barker! I’m learning commands and come when I’m called (Mom says that’s a good thing as some FurKids don’t do that.) She thinks I could be a great therapy dog once I know more commands because I’m so into people. And in my own quiet and gentle way I’m also pretty fearless and confident.

Being a Bichon means I love my walks (I do really well and walk fast so if you want to get in steps I’m your guy!) love to ride in the car, watching everything that’s going on, am a good listener and not a barker! I’m learning commands and come when I’m called (Mom says that’s a good thing as some FurKids don’t do that.) And with the two pups in my foster home, a senior gent and a little shy and somewhat fearful female, I’m respectful and happy to be around them –but we don’t play often at all.

My Ideal Home:

  • A consistent and loving environment
  • Someone home most of the time
  • A loving family
  • Someone looking for a great companion and willing to take me places

Experience Level:

  • Recent experience with an active pup a plus
  • Previous experience as a doggy parent

If you have room in your heart and home for a bright, happy, loving and very resilient pup who loves people and wants to please, then I could be the boy for you.  If I sound like the kind of furkid you’re looking for, please complete our application so we can meet.

Tail wags and doggy kisses,

Buoyant, Budding and Bona Fide Billy

Fonzie

July 4, 2020 by Thea Finney

Hello World!

My name is Fantastic Fonzie and I’m a bouncy, happy, loving little fluff ball (I mean bichon!)  who is 6 months old (or is that young?) loves kids, bigger people (called adults) and other furkids.  Why I’m just about the most perfect and adorable little guy on four legs, according to my foster Mom.

I’m also a very lucky guy. Until the other day I was living on the street. Now I have a Mom who gives me belly rubs, take me on walks and rides, I have a FurKid puppy brother to play with and lots of people I can cuddle with!  I no longer have to be alone (Didn’t I tell you I’m lucky!).

Mom says that it doesn’t take much to get me into a ‘play mode’ – and that I am ready at any time. I like to play ball, chase and tug-of-war – and to wrestle. Mom says I have the cutest way of hopping when we play which is great. And, when we are done playing, I lay down for some belly rubs and cuddles (as many as I can get!)

I’m smart, have already learned the ‘house rules’ and want to please. I like rides in the car, am learning commands and ‘getting acquainted’ with the sounds and noises I hear when I’m on my walks. Some of those are a bit scary for me – but Mom is helping me to gain “confidence” and I know she’s watching out for me. On the other hand, being a puppy, I’m curious about lots of things! I like it best when there are lots of people and pups for me to walk and hang out with. And I’m always respectful and friendly.

Anyone who meets me notices that I’m an amazingly friendly little guy who is full of love, likes every person and dog I meet and has big bright eyes that smile because I’m such a happy little guy!

My Ideal Home:

  • A consistent and loving environment
  • Someone home most of the time
  • Must have another young, active FurKid
  • A family willing to train and further socialize me

Experience Level:

  • Recent experience with an active pup a plus
  • Previous experience as a doggy parent

So if you are looking for a happy little guy who is sweet, friendly, playful, active, adorable and has tons of love to give, please complete our application as I am waiting to meet you.

Loves, licks and a wagging tail,

Friendly and Fun-loving Fonzie

Rikki

June 29, 2020 by Thea Finney

Hi People!

My name is Rikki and I’m quite a darling little girl. I’m smart, beautiful, affectionate, confident and playful. My BFK “Aunties” and our vet think I’m a Bichon Havanese mix – and I’m about 2-3 years old and weigh 16 pounds. My hair is a blend of black, brown and grey (it’s hard to see the colors in most photos) and I have warm and expressive brown eyes that seek your attention (so you can take me places or give me pets and belly rubs!)

I’m also pretty much ‘pure puppy.’ I love to run like the wind and believe that all toys, balls, socks, and baseboards are there for my entertainment. My foster Mom says I’m also very young in ‘the ways of the world.’ She and Dad are working with me on ‘training’ and I will need someone to continue that in my forever home.

I’m good with other dogs but I’m definitely an ‘alpha personality.‘ That means I would prefer to be the only one in the home. (I’m also not good with those creatures called ‘cats’.)

Riding in the car is fun for me! I lie down, relax and enjoy the ride! Dad says I’d also love long walks as I am excellent! I don’t bark at other dogs or people on my walks. I don’t pull but I sure do like to sniff the flowers and plants and see who has been walking in my neighborhood.

My Ideal Home:

  • An experienced owner who has previously worked with a dog trainer and is committed to continuing training
  • A consistent and loving environment
  • Someone home most of the time
  • No other furkids or cats
  • A couple or family with kids 12+ willing to train and further socialize me

Experience Level:

  • A savvy doggy parent is required. This is not the pup for a first-time owner or one who lacks past training experience
  • Recent experience with an active pup a plus

So if you are looking for an affectionate pup who would kiss you forever, given the chance, then please ask for me.

Tail wags and kisses,

Remarkable, Radiant and Rollicking Rikki

Suki

June 26, 2020 by Thea Finney

Hello People,

My name is Suki and I’m a sweet, sassy and willful  little girl of two looking for a forever home. My foster Mom says I’m very loving and affectionate — and as feminine as they come. But that’s not all. I’m also a diamond in the rough. Mom is a trainer and she’s doing her best to teach me the proper way to behave in the world. She says we are making progress but I will need to continue my ‘learning’ with someone who is a super smart, savvy dog person- someone with a lot of training experience. (Not just someone who has had dogs throughout their lives.) . If that sounds like you, please read on!

While I am long on (good) looks and cute as can be, I’m also pretty willful. I like to do what I like to do (which is why I need someone who is smarter than I am and will guide me into perfect behaviors.

I walk beautifully on a leash and like to ride in the car. (Did I mention that I’m a great walking companion too? Well I am –plus people love to stop and admire my cuteness- so whoever walks me gets a lot of attention, I mean exercise, too!)

On my walks, however, I do tend to bark at the dogs who pass us. Mom corrects me with a verbal command so I don’t bark again. That’s one of the reasons that she says I need an experienced owner and one who will show me the best way to behave.

I do love to cuddle and am known to snuggle up to Mom and put my head right under her neck and stay there for as long as I can. That makes me feel very loved and protected – and Mom likes it too.

I’m also not a pup that is good around children. If you have children or grandchildren that visit I’m not the one for you. Sorry but I’m an ‘adults-only’ kind of pup. Mom says I was adopted before I became a FurKid simply because I am cute. The people who adopted me had no dog experience and I got off to a very bad start – so Mom has worked hard to “undo” some of the things that I learned in my previous home.

My Ideal Home:

  • Someone home most of the time
  • No other FurKids — I like to be the center of attention
  • Someone willing to further train me
  • Adults only
  • NO children or grandchildren

Experience Level:

  • Recent dog experience
  • Rescue dog experience
  • Experience with behavioral issues a real plus

Since I was neglected in my ‘past life’ I’m waiting to make up for lost time – and am looking for a forever family who will appreciate my femininity and my affectionate nature – and will continue my training so I can become the best little girl that I can be. Mom says there is no doubt that I’m well worth the effort.

Because I have a number of on-going training requirements, if you are interested in potentially submitting an application to adopt me, please first send an email indicating the kind of training you have done previously, as well as the types of issues that training has addressed. You may send that email to bfkapplicants@gmail.com. If there is an alignment between what you have done and what I need, a volunteer will be back in touch to ask you to complete an adoption application.

Cuddles and tail wags,

Sweet and Sassy Suki

Dickens

June 15, 2020 by Thea Finney

Hello People,

My name is Darling Dickens and I am a very sweet, bouncy, friendly and somewhat goofy bichon mix of two (years that is) who looks and acts like a puppy. I’m told that I am affectionate, playful and friendly – and come in a very cute package!

Dad says I am a happy little guy who is energetic and a very quick learner. I love my doggy foster brothers (and every small pup I meet). Dad doesn’t know who has more fun- the other pups or me! (I think it’s me really!!!)  Playing and having fun is simply what I do! And if my doggy foster brothers want to play ‘chase’ I’m all in!

DickensI also enjoy the company of those two-legged ones called PEOPLE! A mellow home where I can cuddle and snuggle when I’m not playing is what I’m looking for.

Anyone who has visited Mom and Dad’s home likes me immediately – and they also like to give me belly rubs. (And how can a guy resist a belly rub?)

Every day I’m learning new things (like how to walk perfectly on a leash) as well as commands (I’m doing those really well). I will also work very hard to please you and make you happy. Although I can be high energy when I’m excited, I also settle down quickly. If you are not able to play with me I’m pretty good at entertaining myself!

Dickens

My Ideal Home:

  • Someone home most of the time
  • Another active, playful dog around my age and size
  • Someone willing  continue my training

Experience Level:

  • Needs experienced adopter
  • Rescue dog experience required
  • Recent/current dog experience

So if you are looking for a little love of a guy with tons of promise, who is curious about life, doesn’t bark much, loves people and other pups, please complete our application as I am waiting to meet you.

Tail wags and wiggles,

Darling, Delightful and Deserving Dickens

Tipper

June 14, 2020 by Thea Finney

Hello World,

I’m Tipper the Terrific, a darling Bichon Havanese of about three (years, that is) who weighs about 14 pounds soaking wet. My foster mom says that good things come in smallish packages and I’m an incredibly cute ‘package.’ (Mom also says I am the sweetest little guy you could ever hope to meet.) Speaking of meeting…I like to meet new people and especially love to meet other dogs. Give me an opportunity to play with another pup and I’m one happy little guy!

I’m a loving, mindful, adaptable, well- mannered and friendly pup who is housebroken and does not mark! I’m eager to learn what is expected of me and to show you that I can master any requests. I already know a few commands and have truly mastered ‘sit’ (because I then get treats when I do that!) Patience is one of my best traits!

I’m basically just happy to be in a nice home where people are good to me and I have doggy foster sisters I can play with!

I love to go on walks and rides in the car (Mom says I’d prefer driving but since I’m not old enough I’m learning to sit nicely) and I love to be petted and have my belly rubbed. (I’m teaching the Mom how to do that and she’s learning really well!)

My BFK Aunties say that I love listening to everyone talk and I think I understand most of what is being said. I may not be able to talk “exactly” — but I do my best to communicate and am very expressive. And I smile a lot!

My Ideal Home:

  • A consistent and loving environment
  • Someone home most of the time
  • Needs another FurKid or two
  • Active Adults or family with teens

Experience Level:

  • Recent/current dog experience
  • Has had dogs as an adult

So if you are looking for a sweetheart of a guy who is cute, friendly, trusting and loving then look no further. Just complete our application– and let’s get together.

Hope to meet you soon.

Tail wags and more,

Tipper the Terrific
