Making a Difference in Dog’s Life

Cassidy

Editor’s note: The most wonderful part of rescuing pups is knowing that we can make a difference – and a BIG difference- in their lives. And the greatest reward is when we are able to place them in forever homes with amazing adopters.

Hello Bichon Lovers,

We hope that you, your loved ones and FurKids are staying safe, healthy and having a happier and healthier 2022!

One of the most enjoyable aspects of rescuing is to be able to see, through photos and anecdotes, how our FurKids and their families grow over the years. We love to hear from many of you as that makes us incredibly happy! When we have returning adopters and families, that is another reward, as finding a FurKid or two to brighten the home of a family we already know is deeply satisfying.

Growing up with pups that adore them is a very wonderful experience for kids, grown and otherwise. We love hearing how a pup has made a difference in their lives. Despite our best efforts some of our pups outlive their adopters. If they are FurKids, they come back to BFK and become part of our Forever Foster program. You will find the cover article on pages 1-4 details this important program and the three FurKids currently being cared for as Forever Fosters.

Truly the most difficult aspect of loving a FurKid is when it is time for the precious soul to cross the Rainbow Bridge. Letting them go is always the most difficult part of loving them! For Bogey’s foster Mom having him briefly as a part of her family brought untold joy. And we know that the last few months of his life were filled with unconditional love and comfort. He was a very, very special pup. Bogey’s photos and tribute are on page 5.

With the Fourth of July approaching we wanted to share some tips and techniques for helping your FurKids through the loud and often scary times around this holiday. Please know that the shelters anticipate huge numbers of pups that get spooked by fireworks every year and please keep your FurKids safe. The article on pages 6 and 7 provides some guidance on what you can do to help. There is an accompanying article on common poisons in homes and yards. That article is on pages 8 and 9..

We are starting to see more pups arrive in the shelters once again and will be posting photos frequently. These precious pups will be looking for their forever homes– and we would love for them to be adopted by members of our amazing community. We always need and welcome both new and returning fosters. If this is something you can do to help, please email sabina@bichonfurkids.org.
