Bichon FurKids Rescue News
Making a Difference in Dog’s Life
Editor’s note: The most wonderful part of rescuing pups is knowing that we can make a difference – and a BIG difference- in their lives. And the greatest reward is when we are able to place them in forever homes with amazing adopters.
Hello Bichon Lovers,
We hope that you, your loved ones and FurKids are staying safe and healthy —and are preparing to celebrate the holidays and welcome in a happier and healthier 2024!
The needs of pups in rescue vary however the reality of saving them remains the same. Bichon FurKid volunteers work closely with shelters from Sacramento to the Border- and we wish we could save them all!
Recently we received a heart-wrenching email from the Rescue Coordinator at a San Francisco shelter regarding a happy, deserving 3-legged Bichon named Woofy. He had had a seizure and was brought to the shelter by the owner’s son who demanded that Woofy be euthanized. TEAM WOOFY came together and reversed that request! His story, his amazing adopters and the details behind Woofy’s rescue can be found in the article on pages 1 and 2.
Our Forever Foster program is very near and dear to me personally, as well as to fosters including Karen, Lisa, Lor and Gabby who have opened their homes and hearts to seniors who still have a lot of love and life in them. The two and a half years that Pippi lived with me (and my pups) were filled with fun, love and lots of wonderful experiences. I could not have loved her more had she been with us forever. And I miss her every day! Pippi’s story is shared on pages 3 and 4.
Each and every Bichon Bash creates new memories and happy experiences! Each year we see familiar faces and also have the opportunity to create new friendships. Celebrating our precious pups and their adopters, raising money to continue to save lives, is the purpose behind the Bichon Bash. Please ‘join us’ on pages 5-7 for a sampling of the photos taken at this year’s Bash.
With the holidays approaching, we wanted to remind you about the foods and household items your FurKids need to avoid. Many will be known to you– however there are probably a few that are new and should be avoided. Please see that article on page 8. There is also an article regarding what to consider before adopting a bichon on page 9 and a very special poem on page 10.
Lastly, our beautiful 2024 calendar is now available to order. Many thanks to our own Judy D for another outstanding and amazing calendar! The link and information are on page 11.
As always, we invite you to help us to continue with our mission. We see more pups arriving at shelters as people return to work and post-pandemic realities shift yet again. These precious pups are looking for their forever homes– and we would love for them to be adopted by our amazing community. We always need and welcome both new and returning fosters. If this is something you care to do, please email me (marti@bichonfurkids.org) and know that you can truly make a difference!
Each pup that becomes a FurKid receives an adoption kit that includes a bed, blanket, pillow, leash, collar, harness, toy, vitamins and more. No Sew blankets are ALWAYS favorites of our pups. If you, your children, grandchildren, scouts etc. are looking for a way to help, we invite you to help. We’re happy to email instructions, as it’s a fun activity and one that brings great joy (to those making and receiving the blankets!)
