Sporty

Hello World!

My name is Sporty and I’m a cute, sensitive and snuggly little Maltese boy that you might call a “portable pal”. I LOVE to go on walks and rides in the car – and, at 10 pounds, you can take me just about anywhere!

Now my life as a FurKid just started but I’m already learning how much good there is in the world! When my family dropped me off at the shelter they gave my name and age (I’m 11) then said “Goodbye”. I was sick and malnourished and soon also became bewildered. There was so much noise around me and I didn’t feel well at all. My face and mouth hurt a lot and I was not used to being held or cuddled. But let me tell you I’ve already decided that snuggles, cuddles and, oh yes! massages are the way to go—and I’m happy to be making up for lost time.

According to my foster Mom, I’m shy and a bit skittish initially but once I get to know and trust my person I’m a very different kind of fella. A calm and loving environment is perfect for a pup like me. I’m not a couch potato (more on that in a minute) but I do love to lie quietly on Mom’s chest, snuggling for all I’m worth (and she says that’s a lot!)

Speaking of what I like, well at the top of the list is walks! I walk well on a leash and have boundless energy to explore the neighborhood. Of course I’m so cute that people want to meet me. But I have a job to do on my walks and I’m doing my best to show Mom what a great little guy I am.

And, unlike many other FurKids, I am comfortable being the only pup in the house. Now I do get along with other dogs (Mom has two) but I don’t “need” them as I don’t have separation anxiety. When Mom is away I’m happy to sleep contentedly in my dog bed or on the sofa until she returns. At that point I greet her with a tail wag and kisses. That’s my way of showing how grateful I am for her loving care!

My Ideal Home:

  • A patient person looking for a loving companion
  • Someone home most of the time
  • An adult (or adults) fine
  • No other pups required

Experience Level:

  • Had dogs as an adult
  • Recent/current dog experience
  • Rescue dog experience a plus

Mom is hoping that there is a patient and loving person who is looking for a little diamond-in-the-rough (or is it ruff?) who will form the same kind of bond with me that I have with her. That would make me VERY happy and very grateful!

Tippi

Hello New Friends!

My name is Tippi the Terrific and I’m a cute little bichon that you might call a “portable pal”. You see, I’m fully grown and weigh only nine pounds —so you can take me just about anywhere (and I’d really like to go, too!) My foster Mom says I’m a dainty little morsel (she calls me an Elfin beauty!) who is small but mighty —and packed with personality! Mom says I’m a delightful little sprite who will follow you from room to room, with a disapproving shake of the head if you are not headed to the kitchen.! She says I can’t help it if I’m adorable and always have a cute smile on my face, with my tiny pink tongue peeping out.

Dad says I’m mellow, friendly with both two and four-legged “creatures” alike (including cats) and easy to get along with. He says I really seem to love children (!) and wag my tail excitedly when I see them. Dad also says I’ve mastered the command “Be Cute!” to perfection —100% of the time!

Did I mention that I rarely bark, am housebroken (and that’s not a typo!) am very calm in the car (I go into my car bed and fall asleep) can walk (and like to walk half a mile) and am GREAT company! And while I’m more of a mature woman (I’m 11 years young) I will run to greet you with my tail wagging madly! And (drum roll please) I love to play! If you smack the ground with your palms and look at me, I’ll do a play bow and run in circles to show you how much fun we can have together!

My Ideal Home:

  • A person or people who are home most of the time
  • Someone looking for a companion who likes to do things together
  • A nice yard to sun myself would be great
  • I can co-exist with another pup or cat but can also do well by myself

Experience Level:

  • I’m pretty easy so I don’t require someone with tons of experience – just lots of love
  • Recent/current dog experience is always helpful

Mom says that she knows she is biased but that I am a wonderful little pup who is going to make someone SO happy. I’m a sweet and adorable little cutie deserving to be loved and spoiled. Just looking at me is heartwarming. Oh and did I mention that I love going into the garden to “help”? I’m known as the little garden gnome because while I love to sun myself in the yard I’m also there to make sure Mom is pruning everything correctly. (Dad says we work exceptionally well together!)

So if you are looking for a darling, happy and mellow little girl who will make you smile and be your bestest companion, I’m applying for the job!

Please complete an application and ask for me. As Mom says Tippi stands for Terrific + Ideal + Personality Plus+ Perfection+ Independent

Tail wags and bichon kisses,

Tippi

Coco

Hello People!

My name is Coco and I’m quite a handsome bichon guy. I’m very smart, cute, confident, playful and housebroken (and that is not a typo!) I’m an independent six year old guy who LOVES his walks, rides in the car and playing in the yard.

Unlike most of my “bichon brethren” I don’t need the company of other pups, do not have separation anxiety and am also not a cuddle bug. (I look like I would be and people generally want to pet me; though I’m adorable, I’m not needy.) That means I’m not a ‘Starbucks kind of pup’.

I am, however, a bit of a guard dog even though I only weigh 18 pounds. I like my home and yard and I love to show you how well I know my commands. As my ‘Aunties” say, I’m very, very smart!

Because I’m so smart (and because my previous owner was quite old and didn’t train me) I decided that I would be in charge! I’ve been told that’s not a good idea. I’m learning that I don’t need to be in charge and am working with a wonderful trainer who is showing me that there are “better behaviors.” I will need someone to continue that in my forever home. Please note that I do REALLY well with a daily routine and structure!

I have warm and expressive brown eyes that seek your attention (so you can take me places), love to run like the wind and believe that all toys and balls are there for my enjoyment. Riding in the car is fun for me! I also love long walks as I am excellent!

My Ideal Home:

  • Someone home most of the time
  • No other furkids are required–as I like to be the center of attention
  • Someone willing to continue my training
  • A consistent and loving environment but not where I’m expected to cuddle

Experience Level:

  • Experience with an independent and smart pup
  • Previous experience with formal training

So if you are looking for an independent pup who would be a companion in his own unique way, loves to go for walks and rides and can entertain himself, then please ask for me.

Tail wags,

Curious, Capable and Cerebral Coco

Kenny

Hello People!

I’m Charismatic Kenny and I’m a special little guy! My foster mom says I’m a loyal, kind, and VERY happy little pup who is two years old and LOVES action. I create action, I respond to action– and I enjoy action. Whether it’s with pups (big or small) or people either makes my day – as long as we can play and be active together! And if it’s dogs AND people, well then I smile and smile and smile!

Mom calls me “Super Glue” because I bonded with her in about two seconds. She says I’m a happy, sweet, and social little love bug and a pretty typical bichon in many ways. So you will not be surprised to know that I like to play… and ride in the car, go for walks and participate in all that life has to offer! The only thing missing is having a FurKid brother or sister to play with so I could enjoy myself even more! Mom says I’m definitely a social pup as I love everyone I meet.

There is no doubt that I’m an incredibly happy little guy who loves life as a FurKid.  It wasn’t always that way.  You see, I was what my BFK aunties call “an outside dog”. That means that I was kept in a yard and not able to come inside to enjoy time with my people– or have the attention a guy like me needs. I also didn’t have the opportunity to learn the things that most pups learn so there were lots of things that were new to me. Since I’m smart and like to please, learning has been a lot of fun!

Did I mention that I’m housebroken (no typo there) and that I love my baths? And I had my first experience swimming in a pool (I liked that too!) I love to ride in the car and then there are those great things called walks! (I recently walked for 7 miles and still had energy left over). I’m also starting to learn commands! Why I already come when I’m called (that’s more than some of my bichon cousins do!) and I’m learning “sit.” Mom says that there is no doubt that I am a very smart little guy.  And at the end of a busy day I sleep at the bottom of the Big People’s Bed and quietly snore to show my contentment.

My Ideal Home:

  • Active people who are home most of the time
  • Adopters willing to continue my training
  • Another young playful FurKid is a must
  • Older children or teens are ok

Experience Level:

  • Recent experience with an active pup a plus
  • Previous experience as a doggy parent

So if you are looking for a new best friend, are around most of the time, and, most importantly, waiting for a pup who wants to give and receive love. please ask for me!

Kuddles and Kisses,

Kenny the Keeper

Romeo

Hello Everyone,

My name is Romeo and I’m a gentle and loving senior bichon with quite a story to tell! So let’s get started!

In 2008 I was a two year old pup surrendered to a shelter in Orange County by my owners – ah, but I was not alone. You see my female companion, Juliette, was also brought to that shelter. We were alone but had each other, along with the four pups that Juliette was carrying and for whom I was the very proud father-to-be. I was skin and bones because any morsel of food that was provided I gave to Juliette. After all I was there to protect her and the puppies.

A few weeks after we were rescued by our kind BFK Aunties, Juliette gave birth to three boys and a little girl. She was a great Mom and everyone thrived. My foster Mom even made sure that I got to eat and put some weight on as she assured me that there was enough food for all of us.

In January 2009, our puppies were all adopted and it was time for us to find our forever home – or so we thought. A nice lady who lived in Fallbrook California and her nephew (who was the future caregiver) passed with flying colors and adopted us. She didn’t stay in very close touch with BFK over the years (and sometimes that happens!) but she was a good mom.

Then last month something happened. Aunt Marti got a call from a microchip company that said I had been found wandering on a busy street in Fallbrook. I had no collar or tag on – but I was chipped to BFK. To make a long story shorter, my microchip had not been registered to my adopter (and that’s not a good thing!) but Aunt Marti was able to research her information and call her home number. A lady (her adult daughter) answered and said my owner and former Mom had had a stroke in July and was now home – but no one seemed to know that I had wandered off and was missing. What makes my story even more horrifying is that I am pretty blind and my hearing isn’t very good – (but my ‘sniffer’ works just fine.) I somehow survived for days eating grass and even twigs – anything to keep going. And I avoided cars and coyotes which is equally astounding! My former Mom has other FurKids so she doesn’t want me — and her daughter doesn’t even know what happened with Juliette (but thought she may have been ‘captured’ by a coyote. That broke my heart!!)

My foster Mom and Dad have taken me to a vet and (drum roll please) my bloodwork came back AMAZING! I need a dental (which will happen in the next week) and a grooming (so I can be my handsomest self) and I need a loving home.

My Ideal Home:

  • Someone home most of the time
  • A single story home with a nice yard
  • Another FurKid would be comforting
  • Someone with lots of love to give

Experience Level:

  • Had dogs as an adult
  • Recent/current dog experience

Now in case you don’t know it, I’m eligible to become a Forever Foster! That means that my BFK Aunties will take care of any of my medical needs from now on. All I need is a gentle, loving person to live with who will care for me and receive all the unconditional love I have to give.

If that sounds like you, please complete an application for I TRULY DESERVE only the best for the rest of my days.

Resilient, Respectful and Ready-to-be-Yours Romeo

Demi

Hello People!

I’m Demi, a darling little girl of about three who, according to my Mom, is just plain adorable. Mom says that good things come in small packages and at only 9 pounds I’m a darling little ‘package’.

There are lots of things that I do that are just plain cute. For example, I get so excited when Mom wants to take me for a walk, or give me a treat, that I literally hop up and down. Then there’s this really cute thing I do with the doggy stairs. Instead of going “up” the stairs like most pups, I “back” up them. And when I sit on the doggy stairs I put my front feet on a lower step than my back feet (I really am comfortable that way, honest!) Oh and I also hop like a bunny on my walks and I love to run, too!

Before I became a FurKid, life was very different. I was on the street for a while then in someone’s back yard. I had some doggy buddies which helped but very little interaction with people. About a year ago I was “rescued” by people with good intentions. They put me in the first of two foster homes with people that worked all day. I got to hang out with the dogs that were there which was fine but didn’t do well with the people. So I got moved to a different foster home and it was the same situation. Shortly after that the people in that rescue group moved and all of the pups, like me, needed to find another rescue to help them. Well I was one of the lucky ones because I became a FurKid!

Once I got to my foster home I found a Mom and Dad who do not work outside the home and a doggy foster brother who is a senior guy (but I try every day to get him to play with me anyway.) It took me about a week but I decided my Mom is a really nice lady and I started to be comfortable around her. I let her take me on walks and rides in the car (I’m very good on both) but I still don’t let her pick me up.

As for Dad, I must admit that I bark at him every time he comes into the room, even if he was only gone for a few minutes. And with strangers I bark and sometimes growl. My bonding and comfort level seems to be with women only and, of course, other little FurKids like me.

I’m definitely a little girl with a lot of promise. You might call me a bit of a ‘project’ or, as my BFK Aunties say, a ‘diamond in the rough!’ I’m far more comfortable with dogs than with people – and much more comfortable with women than men. I also need another young playful pup who is well socialized and can show me how to be a happy well-adjusted pup.

Mom says that I truly love other dogs and have lots of fun with my doggy foster brother and other pups. Like most young dogs, I need a forever Mom (or two Moms) willing to continue to work on my training (Mom calls it socialization) – so that I can grow up to be the best little girl there is.

My Ideal Home:

  • A woman (or women) home most of the time
  • Must have another active, playful dog around my age
  • Another dog to show me the ropes
  • NO men in the home
  • NO Kids (I’m just too fearful)

Experience Level:

  • Recent experience with an active pup a plus
  • Rescue dog experience
  • Experience with behavioral training

My wish of all wishes is for a special someone who is very kind, patient and willing to work with me so that I can become the little girl I was always meant to be. When that wish comes true I’ll be the happiest little FurKid alive.

Because I have a number of on-going needs, if you are a woman (no gentlemen please!) who has a young small-ish FurKid currently and is interested in potentially submitting an application to adopt me, please first send an email indicating your background and a little about your FurKid to bfkapplicants@gmail.com. If there is an alignment between what you describe and what I need, a volunteer will be back in touch to ask you to complete an adoption application.

I wish. I wish.

Darling and Dainty Demi
