Willie (Adoption Pending)

April 22, 2023 by Deb Gibb

Willie Must Have:

— Someone home most of the time
— A loving home with kids (over 7 please) especially
— People who like to go on walks—and also like to stay home and cuddle
— Another small FurKid would be good for me

Experience Level:
— Have had dogs as an adult
— Recent/current dog experience a plus

Hello World!

My name is Winsome and Whimsical Willie and I’m quite the happy and loving little guy. At two years of age and weighing 11 pounds I’m just about the perfect size and age for a bichon. I’m a friendly guy who is charming, sweet, affectionate and cuddly. And did I mention that I LOVE my walks and greet everyone I meet with a happy tail wag (and I don’t bark!) I also LOVE playing with my toys? Well, that’s just the kind of guy I am. You will rarely see me without a toy in my mouth. My foster Mom says I like to empty the entire toy bin daily and pick out a variety of toys to play with –and have near me. Why I will even nap on a pile of my toys, sometimes nodding off while chewing on a plushy toy. My BFK Aunties want you to know that I am not destructive though – I just really only likes soft toys that squeak.

I’ll bet you can figure out that I adore playing fetch too! I will run around after my toys for as long as you want to throw them. I also follow Mom around and like carrying my toy while I check on her. People comment that I am always wagging my tail (because I am happy!) and I love it when you talk to me. Did I mention that I dance on my hind legs for a treat (I do both pirouettes and squeaks) and also have a reputation for doing the most adorable Bichon prance. It’s a reputation I seek to maintain!

Before I became a FurKid I was left in a yard, where I eventually got out and was ‘on the street’. Why I looked like a wayward bichon (which is what I was). Then I found myself living in the shelter with lots of other dogs. I did everything I could think of to get out. I smiled a lot and licked hands a lot and, guess what? It worked! Now I have a foster Mom who likes to do walks, rides and cuddle. (They say I’m the one who likes to cuddle but I know it takes at least two to cuddle!) Grandma says I am a good listener and a great companion! I like to be wherever she or Mom is – but I am not intrusive. If I can lie nearby, that is fine. If I can be in someone’s lap… well that is even better!!! That’s why I’m such good company!

I also get along with the other little white fluffs in our home – and, while I don’t exactly play with them, they do help me to feel more secure. So having both two and four-legged companions are very important to me.

My Ideal Home:
* Someone home most of the time
* A loving home with kids (over 7 please) especially
* People who like to go on walks—and also like to stay home and cuddle
* Another small FurKid would be good for me

Experience level:
* Have had dogs as an adult
* Recent/current dog experience a plus

So if you are looking for a buddy to keep you company, “help” you in the home or yard – and be a wonderful companion, then I’m applying for the job! You will find no one more willing! Mom says I will make a wonderful addition to any family. With my big brown eyes and soft fluffy hair, I look a lot like a stuffed animal and have charmed everyone I have met.

I’m just a happy, mellow and sweet little creature who never complains, has a loving heart, a desire to please and a very gentle nature (except with those creatures called squirrels and cats. And that’s a different story which I will tell you when we meet!)

Tail wags and bichon kisses,

Winsome and Whimsical Willie

Ollie

March 31, 2023 by Deb Gibb

Ollie Must Have:
— A patient and dog savvy person or couple
— No children
— Other small pups, especially a female, would be nice
— Someone who lives in the desert

Experience Level:
— Have had dogs as an adult
— Recent/current dog experience a plus

Hello World,

My name is Ollie and I am a gorgeous black and white pup, about 20 pounds and three years old who is a very handsome and plucky boy. I love to go for walks, am good in the car and very smart. I’m also a bit of what my Aunties call ‘a diamond in the rough.’ Let me explain.

I was living in a shelter with lots of other dogs in my ‘cage’ and I was scared. I was lucky enough to be rescued and got to live in an amazing foster home where I was part of everything that was going on. I liked that a lot – and I liked playing with my doggy foster sister and brother.

I had, however, developed a few ‘not so social’ behaviors with new people, though, so I got signed up for something called ‘training.’ Now I am living with a wonderful couple (she’s a ‘dog trainer’) have several foster brothers and sisters from whom I can learn and a foster Dad who likes to cuddle. (He says I’m the one who likes to cuddle but I tell him it takes two to cuddle!)

My trainer says that when you have earned my trust I become an affectionate cuddlebug who loves to sit on your lap and be with you. I am not, however, a pushover. When someone new comes over they inevitably want to pet me because I’m so cute and expressive. That doesn’t work for me. I don’t like that kind of attention when I don’t know you — and that means I react fearfully. If we can spend time together and get to know one another, that’s an entirely different situation. After we become buddies you will see the cuddly, loving side of me because we are then friends.

Dad says I’m just great on a leash and even better in the car! I just LOVE to ride in the car! I’m crate trained and working on learning commands. Because I’m smart I can learn them quickly. On the other hand I need lots of reinforcement.

My trainer says I don’t yet have a lot of ‘tools in my tool box’. As a result I am working with her to learn new ways to cope and not be reactive. She is helping me to become more confident and to make better choices. She (and I) hope I can find someone who is willing to get to know me slowly and work with her until I can then go to my forever home. Since my trainer is located in the desert, ideally I would like to meet someone who also lives in the desert and can visit with me to build trust before I get adopted.

My Ideal Home Must Have:
— A patient and dog savvy person or couple
— No children
— Other small pups, especially a female, would be nice
— Someone who lives in the desert

That’s a bit of a tall order but I believe there is someone out there who has faith in my ability to adapt and is willing to manage me and help me be successful. Then I can transition from being a diamond in the rough to being a happy, confident pup.

So if you are looking for a pup who is playful, energetic, a bit barky and reactive —while also smart and willing to learn, let’s start a conversation. With time and patience I am hoping to become the pup I was meant to be.

Tails wags and cuddles,

Optimistic and potentially Omazing Ollie

Casey

March 21, 2023 by Deb Gibb

Casey Must Have:

  • Someone who is home most of the time and another small pup to play with would be great, but not required..
  • Cats and kids 8 or older are okay.

Experience Level:

  • Have had dogs as an adult
  • Recent/current dog experience a plus

Hi People,

My name is Casey and I’m a handsome and loving sweetheart of about six or seven (years, that is) who is playful, smart and very loving. My foster Mom says I’m also endearing, irresistible and sweet – a major cuddler who is good with other dogs and thoroughly enjoys his people.

My foster Dad says I’m handsome, playful and eager to please. He says it’s fun watching me learn so many (new) things. For example I recently discovered this really neat toy called a ‘rollerball’. When I roll it the right direction I get special treats. Mom says I’m SO smart that I figured it out in seconds (and you should see me roll it! I’m masterful!) She finds watching me very entertaining!.

I’ve learned about car rides. I’m a pro in the car…. already! And I really REALLY like to go on walks. To say I’m fabulous on a leash is NOT an understatement. I also have good ‘dog walking’ manners. Did I mention (drum roll please) that I’m housebroken EVEN with all this darn rain (!) I’m so good that I get to sleep in the Big People’s bed where I lie quietly all night long, snuggling and happy as can be!

I’m a real lap dog and the world’s best companion! I learn quickly too, am not a chewer or a barker.

Mom says I would be happy in a home with other FurKids or can be an ‘only’ FurKid if I have my people around most of the time. I’m just a happy, friendly, loveable, adaptable and very sweet (Did I mention I’m a love sponge?) little guy with a heart full of love and about as cute as I can be.

If I sound like the kind of fur kid that you are looking for, please fill out an application so we can meet!

Thanks a lot!

Charming and Cuddly Casey

Cody

Cody Must Have:

  • Someone who is home most of the time and a person or people who love to walk. Adults or a family with kids over 7 please.

Experience Level:

  • Have had dogs as an adult
  • Recent/current dog experience

Hello People,

My name is Cody and I’m a calm, cuddly and charming bichon mix of about six or seven (years old that is) who excels at being a companion. In fact the “C’ in my name is short for COMPANION. I’m LOYAL in capital letters, LOVING (in a very sweet and adoring way) and a very mellow fellow!

My foster Mom says I’m masterful at walks and have learned that they are a fun experience. I get to smell lots of things and see pups and people on our walks. (I’m a very approachable kind of guy and so nice that everyone wants to say ‘Hello’ to me. Mom says I walk really nicely on a leash and could walk forever. I also ‘heel’ when she stops. (Mom says that shows my good manners.) Pups and people seem to like me but I’m also pretty independent and confident, yet cuddly and affectionate.

I’m housebroken which Mom says is a very good thing, and am such a good boy! While I could sleep in the Big People’s Bed I prefer to go under it instead. And you know what? Sleeping in and feeling safe is such a great thing that I’m in no hurry to get up!

Mom also wants you to know that I’m a svelte 21 pounds who is blossoming more and more every day (Silly Mom! I’m not a flower, I’m a FurKid!) and that I respond 1000% to human kindness. I appreciate every (good) thing that happens for and to me. I’m quite content to sit quietly on the couch next to you, happy to accept as many belly rubs as you want to give me. And if you want to brush or groom me, well, I’ll just sit next to you for hours doing what Mom calls “a bichon purr.” I just love (and appreciate) the attention. And looking handsome is a nice, too!

My very favorite thing in the world is to be loved and to give it back. Mom says I am a sweet and happy guy who appreciates attention – but doesn’t demand it. (I especially appreciate all the nice things Mom says about me and how kind she is!) I just need somebody to give me lots of love – and I’ll absolutely positively give it right back!

There is no doubt that I’m a special and loyal boy who is longing to make someone very happy. Mom says I’m wonderful, easy going and sweet. (Can you tell she likes me?) And while I’m close to perfect I will need you to help me understand that going for rides in the car is fun! (Right now I do not associate them with fun so I probably never got to go to fun places before I became a FurKid.)

So if you are looking for that special companion to go where you go, enjoy hanging out and looking for a new best friend please ask for me as I’m applying for the job!

Tail wags and more,

Cuddly and Calm Cody

Chipper

November 27, 2022 by Deb Gibb

Chipper Must Have:

  • Someone who is home most of the time and another active, playful dog. A family with kids would be wonderful!

Experience Level:

  • Have had dogs as an adult
  • Recent/current dog experience

Hello World,

My name is Chipper and I am a coltish and charming bichon boy who is 10 months old and 17 pounds of cuteness and also a very lucky boy. Let’s start with why I am so lucky.

Until the other day I was living on the street and scrounging for food. Then I was picked up and taken to a place called a shelter. It was a loud and intimidating place for a youngster like me and I became quite scared. I rubbed and rubbed my ears on the concrete until they were very swollen and bloody. And while I don’t recommend doing that it did get me ‘rescued’ right away –so that I wouldn’t make things any worse for my poor ears!

My BFK Aunties took me to the nice vet where they shaved and cleaned up my ears and gave me some meds so that my ears would stop hurting me. Thank goodness they did as it worked! I’m already healing and the hair on my ears is already growing back.

Now I have a foster Mom who takes me on walks and rides – and a 9 year old foster sister (the human kind) that I can snuggle with and watch TV. I like to listen to everything she says to me and am doing my best to be her shadow!

There is also a great doggy foster brother who is helping me to become more confident every day. He is doing what Mom calls “showing me the ropes”. I get to meet lots of other dogs and people — and I like them all (Best of all, they like me!) And the greatest news is that I no longer have to be alone (Didn’t I tell you I’m lucky!)

Mom says that I’m very friendly, energetic, loving, cute and playful. I love my doggy foster brother and I love children! Oh and I love ALL toys! While I am happy to play with each and every one, my very favorite toy is my rubber chicken! Oh me, oh my! I love that little guy. (I also like to play fetch!)

Did I mention that I like to go for rides (in the car, of course!) and on walks? Well I do – walks and car rides are the best! And when we are back home, it doesn’t take much to get me into a ‘snuggle mode’. (Mom says I do that well, too!)

Dad says that I am smart, want to please and have already learned the ‘house rules’. Did you know I am already potty trained and that I sleep quietly all night in my crate? I’m also learning commands (although I’d rather be running and playing ‘cause I’ve got what Dad calls ‘puppy energy.’) He says that I am an amazingly happy and active guy who is friendly and full of love. (Gosh, Dad – thanks!)

Oh and one last thing: Mom says my eyes shine and smile because I’m so happy! So if you are looking for a guy who is happy, friendly, playful, enjoys cuddles and snuggles and has tons of love to give, please complete our application as I am waiting to meet you.

Tail wags and kisses,

Cute, Cuddly and Companionable Chipper

Dexter (Adoption Pending)

October 13, 2022 by Deb Gibb

Dexter Must Have:

  • Someone who is home most of the time and another active, playful dog around his age that can show him the ropes. He needs a family to call his own.

Experience Level:

  • Have had dogs as an adult
  • Recent/current dog experience a plus!

Hi Everyone,

I’m Dexter, a delectable Havanese (mix) with white, black, brown and apricot cuteness who is 18 months young (or do I mean old?).  While the shelter did me no favors when they shaved me, my hair is growing in nicely and I’m still managing to steal hearts with my sweet personality. My foster Mom says her photos don’t do me justice — but when you meet me my happy disposition, loving and playful nature comes shining through!

Did I also mention that I am a lucky pup? Let’s start with why I am so lucky. Until recently I was living on the street, scavenging for food and safety. Then I found myself in the ‘shelter’ where I was surrounded by a lot of barking and noises that scared me. But then I became a FurKid! That meant I was safe and Boy! was I relieved—and lucky!

Mom says I’m an energetic, friendly, loving and smart little guy, capable on standing on my hind legs for an impressive amount of time. Dad says I love to play with my toys and am getting quite good at chasing the ball and (drum roll please!) returning it. I’m also very interested in having new experiences and there are lots of them for me every day: like seeing birds and bikes – and strollers. I have already met and like a 5 year old little human. Babies also intrigue me so I may bark at first but it’s because I don’t know what they are or if they want to play.

I get along with everyone and little pups like me are my favorites. Everyone can become my new best friend! Mom says I’m a perky and active little guy who is very smart and likes to learn. For example, I’m very good about going potty. I haven’t had any accidents since my foster mom is very good with my routine and commands. While I don’t have a doggie door like some FurKids I know I could master that pretty fast. I also know the ‘Come’ command already. Mom and I are working on ‘wait’ (so we can go out the front door together.) That’s the next one on my list!

I try to do lots of things that make Mom smile. How’s that for wanting to please? I love my walks! Of course, we can’t forget the ‘going for a ride in the car’ behavior. Well, let me tell you there is nothing more fun than riding in the car!

If you have a heart for an energetic, active and happy pup then we should definitely meet. I’ll make you proud of all that I can become now that I’m a FurKid. So if you want to be a super hero, please ask for me.

Cuddles and Snuggles,

Deserving and Delightful Dexter
